Neuschwanstein Castle while under construction.
The castle was commisoned by King Ludwig II (also known as “Mad King Ludwig”) and meant to be an homage to Richard Wagner and his operas.
In 1886 Lugwid “accidently drowned” in two feet of water and had spent less than a year in the castle. By 1892 construction was completed, but without some of the more ornate designs which were originally intended.
Picture taken circa 1882-1885.
